CAER SIDI
(Words and Music by Beth Wheeler)
Inspired by Welsh poetry and myth
5/13/99
Em D
The stars, a throne, the sky, a dance
Em D
We imitate to catch its flame
Em D
And build with stone and strive to glean
Em G C
The remedy of air and light
G D Em
My home is in the summer stars
D B7
Between the throne and fortress gates
Em D
A heartbeat past the memory
C Em
Of all that's flown with yesterday
Em D C
Three full boatloads we went down
D Em
Save seven, none returned
Here stranded on the island shore
I mend my sails with the wind
Each stitch the pain of trust betrayed
A child's eyes, a woman's rage
Of darkness I have seen too much
And founded broken walls thereon
But should I ever reach that land
Though love may call, I'll not come back
Three full boatloads we went down
Save seven, none returned
The journey's perils haunt my dreams
My home and prison, haven, snare
Chased by the hounds of red and white
The hues of pain yet unassuaged
A child's footsteps etched in stars
I flee from memory, locked in stone
As fragile as a spider's thread
The stepping stones to Caer Sidi
Three full boatloads we went down
Save seven, none returned
